Mekong Advisory exists to produce rigorous, independent economic analysis for the Greater Mekong Subregion. For a long time, that work has been delivered directly to clients — reports, models, advisory sessions. This section changes that.
Mekong Advisory Insights is where we publish shorter-form work: notes on macroeconomic conditions across the mainland, commentary on regional policy developments, observations on trade flows and investment trends, and the occasional technical post on research methods and AI-assisted workflows.
What to expect
The posts here will fall into a few recurring categories:
Mekong macro commentary. Periodic notes on the business cycle across the mainland — growth dynamics in Vietnam and Thailand, monetary policy divergence among the GMS central banks, cross-border trade flows through the corridors. These won’t be trading signals — they’ll be attempts to reason carefully about where regional economies are and where they’re likely to go.
Trade & policy analysis. When significant trade agreements, tariff actions, or regulatory changes affect the region, we’ll write up what the evidence says about likely effects — supply chain realignment, export exposure, distributional consequences.
Regional economics. The mainland is a genuinely diverse economic landscape — from Vietnam’s export-led manufacturing growth to Thailand’s tourism dependence to Cambodia and Laos’s corridor integration. We’ll write about what’s happening across these economies specifically, rather than treating the region as a monolith.
Energy & commodities. The Mekong region sits at the center of some of the world’s most consequential energy transitions — coal phaseouts, LNG infrastructure buildouts, hydro politics. We’ll track these developments with the rigor they deserve.
Research notes. We use agentic AI systems extensively in our research workflows. When we learn something useful — about retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, workflow design — we’ll share it.
A note on independence
Everything published here represents our own analysis. We don’t write to please clients, manage market positions, or signal political alignment. We follow the evidence where it leads and say so when the evidence is thin.
